Depression Treatment

Most women think that there is no way to come out of depression due to hopelessness and lack of confidence and so they think of suicide. But, let me tell you that this is not true. Never be guided by what your mind says because a single negative thought followed by belief in it has the potential to ruin your life. So, if you remain positive and inquire about the depression treatment, you will come to know that variety of options exist, which can definitely bring your life back to normal or even can make it more enjoyable than before. You just need to have a positive approach, that’s it!

You need to first stop thinking that depression during menopause is an illness. In fact, it is a normal change taking place in the body and mind due to hormonal fluctuations. So, after knowing the cause, one can surely control or treat the symptoms of depression. There are three approaches that form the depression treatment - Lifestyle Changes, Alternative Medicine, and Drugs and Surgery.

    • Lifestyle ChangesIn this least risky and primary approach of the depression treatment, you need to ensure the highest amount of self discipline to follow simple changes in lifestyle for obtaining very big benefits. The first step is to plan for a regular exercise as active lifestyle is inevitable. It is seen that the physiological and physical benefits of daily exercise alleviate the symptoms of depression, especially the mild ones. Women in depression often do not like to exercise, but they need to conquer the inertia to attach to a daily or weekly exercise schedule. It is recommended to have at least three sessions of 30 minutes in a week.

Also, consider fitness activities like walking, golfing, and biking; which emit endorphins to make you feel good, allay muscle tension, lessen stress, and help in improving sleeping cycles and personality too. To treat isolation caused due to introvert nature that is a common symptom of depression, think of joining a sports club or meet your friends frequently.

Diet also plays an important role in the depression treatment. Improve you balanced diet by including food items like soy, apples, alfalfa, cherries, potatoes, rice, and wheat; which increase the estrogen production. Simultaneously, you also need to avoid the intake of certain food items like sugary stuff and alcohol. It is known that alcohol is often used as a fleeting escape, but in reality, it results in vitamin deficiencies and deeper depression. Likewise, sugary snacks and caffeine initially also fill you with energy, but this will last only until they remain effective in the body. Other simple lifestyle changes for depression are:
    • Sleeping 7-8 hours per night
    • Taking vitamins B, C, D, and E
    • Practicing breathing exercises
    • Drinking 5 liters of water in a day
    •
    • Alternative MedicineThis is the second approach characterized by little to no risk. As it directly increases the levels of estrogen in the body, it is the safest and most effective way to treat depression. It involves a myriad of different therapies such as herbal supplements, acupuncture, biofeedback, massage, aromatherapy, and hypnosis. Despite the fact that all are effective options, many women go for herbal supplements because they are the easiest alternative depression treatment due to comparatively less time and money management.

Women go for two types of herbs namely, phytoestrogenic and non-estrogenic herbs. Phytoestrogenic herbs (Black Cohosh) are rich in estrogenic components, which are introduced in the body to treat the hormonal imbalance leading to depression. However, these outside hormones results in a decline of the body’s capacity to produce its own estrogen resulting in a further decrease of own hormone levels. So, it is preferable to take the non-estrogenic herbs like Macafem. Although they do not hold estrogen, they still increase the production levels by nourishing the pituitary and endocrine glands making them to produce efficiently. In this way, the body can create its own hormones and does not need any external support.
    •
    • Drugs and SurgeryThis is the most risky and expensive approach and is only adopted in case of extremity. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is the most common drug therapy for treating menopausal depression here. However, it has its own serious side effects although it is a strong answer to depression. Many antidepressant medications are also prescribed as per the doctor’s experience and judgment.
