Symptoms of Menopause
Menopause is not a disease, but is a natural process of aging definitely bringing in a variety of symptoms. As the menopause years start, the body reacts or has to adjust with the quick declining levels of natural hormones due to which an array of changes might take place. These changes or effects known as symptoms might be problematic, but that too is not necessary. Therefore, not all women will pass through the effects that can be bothersome, which indicates that the amount and intensity of effects vary from one woman to another.
Symptoms of menopause take place in over 70% of women who have entered their menopause. The common symptoms like hot flashes or night sweats can be seen, while some symptoms are such that are noticed while still receiving periods.
- The Relation of the Cause with the SymptomsThe symptoms of menopause, such as skin drying, are mainly because of the low estrogen levels that continue to fall after the transition years are over (postmenopause). Most of the symptoms are seen when the woman enters her perimenopause stage and they are because of an overall decline along with the unpredictable fluctuations in the absolute levels and relative levels of estrogens and progesterone. Certain symptoms like itching might be seen due to the hormone withdrawal.
But, good news is that several symptoms such as hot flashes generated by the high variation in hormone levels generally diminish after the perimenopause stage is taken over by the postmenopause stage. Many of them take up the hormone replacement therapy, but even those along with non-users experience a fall in energy levels; vasomotor symptoms like hot flashes and palpitations, psychological effects such as depression, anxiety, mood changes, memory problems, and lack of concentration; and atrophic effects like urgent urination.
More common is to pass through unpredictable menstrual periods with erratic timing of the flow. Further, this time of the flow might be shorter or longer than the standard one and that the flow can be very heavier or lighter too. In fact, sometimes long incidents of spotting can also occur. So, in the starting days, you might notice 2-week cycles or you might not have cycles for months after which you might witness a heavier period. When you are very close to the last period, the number of continuous missed periods normally increases.
- The Duration of the Symptoms of Menopause
The symptoms of menopause is said to exist at least for all the years of menopause transition. This comes to somewhere in mid 50s. However, in some females, they might never go at all.
